Jobber wins for a small or growing shop that wants a published, workable price: its $29/month Core tier is real self-serve pricing with a clear path up through five tiers. ServiceTitan wins instead once an operation is large enough to justify a fully custom deployment, but it publishes no price on any tier, so it only makes sense once a shop is past comparison shopping.

The short answer

  • Jobber's Core plan is $29/month annually (1 user, $49/month with no commitment), scaling through Connect, Grow and Plus tiers up to $399/month with 15 users included, per getjobber.com/pricing.
  • Housecall Pro's Basic plan is $59/month annually for 1 user, but open API access and Zapier are locked to its top Max tier at $299/month (8 users included), per housecallpro.com/pricing.
  • ServiceM8 offers a genuine Free plan (1 user, 30 jobs/month) and a $29/month Starter tier with unlimited users but a 50-job monthly cap, meaning cost scales with job volume rather than headcount, per servicem8.com/pricing.

How the five differ in practice

ServiceTitan

Built around drag-and-drop dispatch with call recording and marketing-to-revenue tracking, aimed at operations that want a single system tying ad spend to closed jobs. Its three tiers, Starter, Essentials and The Works, all sit behind a demo request with zero published pricing. Not for: a shop that wants to see a number before talking to sales.

Housecall Pro

Scales price by both tier and included user count, with a sales-proposal tool and route optimization arriving at the Essentials and Max tiers rather than the entry Basic plan. Open API access specifically is reserved for the top Max tier, which forces a shop that wants to integrate with other tools into the most expensive plan. Not for: a shop wanting integration flexibility without the top-tier price.

Jobber

The most transparently priced of the five, with a real $29/month entry tier and clear per-seat overage pricing at every step up. Its AI Receptionist for capturing missed leads, arguably its most talked-about feature, is gated to the Plus tier rather than included at the advertised entry price. Not for: a shop that wants the AI Receptionist feature without upgrading past Core.

FieldEdge

Bundles unlimited saved reports, outbound call recording and warehouse inventory management into its top Elite tier, with several other named features, Proposal Pro and its MarketingEdge texting tool, sold as separate add-ons on top of whatever tier price a shop negotiates. Not for: a shop that wants an all-in single price with no further add-on decisions.

ServiceM8

The only tool here with a genuinely usable free tier and unlimited users on every paid plan, which suits a shop that grows staff faster than job count. Cost instead scales by jobs completed per month, reaching $349/month at its top Premium Plus tier for 1,500+ jobs, so a high-volume single-tech operation pays more here than a low-volume larger crew would. Not for: a high-job-volume shop, where the job cap pushes cost up regardless of headcount.

When none of these is the answer

A solo operator running fewer than a handful of jobs a week does not need a dedicated field service platform; a shared calendar and a paper or PDF invoice template cover that volume without paying a monthly minimum built for dispatching a crew.

Disclosure: SalesCrew is our product. It is not included in the ranking above because it does not schedule field jobs, dispatch technicians or generate service invoices; it manages the sales pipeline that decides which lead becomes a job in the first place. A trade business would run one of the five tools above for field operations and, if it wants an AI-operable CRM for the sales side, SalesCrew beside it, not instead of it.

Questions

What's the cheapest field service management tool to start with?
ServiceM8's Free plan costs $0/month for 1 user and 30 jobs a month, per servicem8.com/pricing. Among paid tools, its own Starter tier is $29/month with unlimited users but capped at 50 jobs a month. Jobber's Core plan is also $29/month annually, but for 1 user.
Why do some of these publish no price at all?
ServiceTitan and FieldEdge gate every tier behind a demo request on their own pricing pages, with no dollar figures published anywhere. That's typical of tools built for larger operations where the sales process itself scopes the deal, not a signal that the product is a bad fit for a small shop.
Does API access come on every tier?
No, on the tools that publish it. Housecall Pro locks its open API and Zapier access to the top Max tier. ServiceM8 includes API access, Zapier and n8n starting on its cheapest paid Starter tier. Check the specific tier before assuming integration access is included.
Do these tools charge per job or per user?
It varies by vendor. Jobber and Housecall Pro both scale primarily by included user count, with paid seats added on top. ServiceM8 scales primarily by jobs completed per month, with unlimited users included on every paid tier, which suits a shop with more staff than job volume.
