Best Upwork proposal tools
Freelancers and agencies bidding on Upwork jobs at volume use a mix of job alerts, AI-written cover letters and auto-bidding. Compared on price, credits and what happens after a proposal is sent.

Vollna wins for a freelancer or agency that wants to choose between manual and fully automated bidding under one vendor, with the clearest price ladder from $24/month to $640/month. GigRadar wins instead for an agency managing multiple Upwork profiles that wants a built-in pipeline, even though that pipeline is a separate paid add-on.
The short answer
- Vollna's Freelancer tier is $24/month ($16/month annual) with 250 AI cover letters and 3,000 qualifier credits for one profile; its Auto-bidding tiers run from $59/month (Auto 50) to $640/month (Auto 800+) for fully automated 24/7 sending, per vollna.com/pricing.
- GigRadar's Start tier is $99/month ($129 monthly) for one profile and 100 credits, and also requires a separate $20/month Upwork Agency Plus subscription; its CRM (master inbox, 10-stage pipeline) is a paid add-on, not included in the base plans, per gigradar.io/pricing.
- Upwex's Lite tier is $9.99/month for 100 AI credits, the cheapest entry price of the three, but lists 'MCP, API & Webhooks' as coming soon rather than available today, per upwex.io/pricing.

How each one fits an Upwork bidding workflow
Vollna
The clearest price ladder of the three, running from a $24/month manual-bidding Freelancer tier up through five auto-bidding tiers that send proposals automatically around the clock. Job alerts arrive by email, Telegram, push notification or RSS on the entry tier, with Slack, Discord, webhooks and Google Sheets added on Agency. Not for: someone who wants a CRM in the same tool rather than a Pipedrive or HubSpot connection.
GigRadar
Built for agencies running more than one Upwork profile, with real-time Slack and Telegram alerts included free and AI job qualification scoring which jobs are worth a proposal. Its 10-stage pipeline and master inbox exist, but cost extra beyond the base Start, Agency or Unlimited plans, and every account also needs a separate $20/month Upwork Agency Plus subscription. Not for: a solo freelancer, since the whole pricing structure assumes agency scale.
Upwex
The cheapest way in at $9.99/month, with a 0-100 job-analyzer score generated in about five seconds and AI cover letters in under ten. Its Max tier adds a 24/7 auto-bidding scanner with custom red-flag prompts. MCP, API and webhook access are listed as coming soon, not live. Not for: a team that needs API or agent access to this tool right now.
When none of these is the answer
A freelancer sending fewer than five or ten proposals a week doesn't need a paid job-alert or auto-bidding tool. Upwork's own saved searches and job feed are free, and writing each proposal by hand at that volume takes less time than learning a new tool's filters and credit system.
Disclosure: SalesCrew is our product, and it has a full Upwork module: feed monitoring, a gate for job quality, proposal tracking and outcome logging, alongside the rest of a CRM's pipeline and inbox. It isn't ranked above because it isn't a bidding or alert tool the way the three above are; it manages the relationship and pipeline after a proposal goes out, not the act of finding and writing the proposal itself.
Questions
- Do any of these tools include a CRM to track proposals after they're sent?
- Not by default. GigRadar has a 10-stage pipeline and master inbox, but only as a separate paid add-on beyond its base plans. Vollna and Upwex have no built-in pipeline; Vollna's Agency tier integrates with Pipedrive, HubSpot and Zapier instead, and Upwex syncs to Pipedrive on its Pro and Max tiers. None of the three replace a CRM for tracking a client relationship after the job is won.
- What's the difference between manual bidding and auto-bidding tools?
- Manual bidding tools like Vollna's Freelancer and Agency tiers alert you to new jobs and help you write proposals faster, but a person still clicks send. Auto-bidding tiers, like Vollna's Auto 50 through Auto 800+ plans, send proposals automatically around the clock based on your filters. Auto-bidding raises volume but removes the judgment call on whether a job is actually worth bidding.
- Is there a free way to get alerted to new Upwork jobs?
- Upwork's own job feed and saved searches are free and cover basic alerting. These tools add AI-written cover letters, job-fit scoring, faster alert delivery and, in GigRadar and Vollna's case, agency-specific features like managing multiple freelancer profiles. The paid tools are worth it once proposal volume or speed becomes the bottleneck, not before.
- Do any of these tools connect to an agent or MCP client?
- Not yet, on the two that mention it. Upwex lists 'MCP, API & Webhooks' as coming soon, not available today. GigRadar's API is included on its Agency and Unlimited tiers. Vollna's API is available on its Agency tier. None currently advertise a public MCP server.
