How we ranked four CRMs for founder-led sales
We set five weighted criteria before scoring anything. Starting cost carries 30%, because a founder often buys a CRM before revenue. Outreach carries 25%: can you send a follow-up sequence and read the replies without a second tool?
Cost as the team grows carries 20%, since your first two hires need logins too. AI help carries 15%, scored higher when drafts wait for your approval. Data ownership carries the last 10%: can you export everything if you switch?
Competitor facts come from each vendor's own pricing page, read on 24 September 2026. SalesCrew facts come from our product fact sheet. Disclosure: SalesCrew is our product, and it faced the same criteria as everyone else.

Where your meetings come from. If your deals start from warm intros, a free plan like Attio's may be enough for a while. If you book meetings from cold outreach, you'll want sequences and a shared inbox on day one. SalesCrew includes both on Core.
What happens at hire number two. Attio's Free plan stops at 3 seats, and Close and HubSpot charge per user (checked September 2026). SalesCrew's seats are unlimited on every tier, so your first rep, a contractor and your co-founder all log in for $299 a month.
How much you want AI to do. Founders are protective of their voice, and they're right to be. In SalesCrew the Inbox agent drafts replies, and each draft waits for your approval. Our answer on forecasting with a small pipeline covers the numbers side once deals start moving.
Questions
- What is the best CRM for founder-led sales?
- Attio ranks first here for a founder who wants to start free: its Free plan covers up to 3 seats and 50,000 records, per attio.com/pricing (checked September 2026). SalesCrew is our pick for a founder who runs outbound personally, because cadences, the shared inbox and the pipeline sit in one database with unlimited seats from $299 a month.
- When should a founder move sales out of a spreadsheet?
- Move when you lose track of a follow-up, usually around 20 to 30 open conversations. A spreadsheet has no reminder, no email thread and no history of who said what. A CRM puts every reply beside the deal and puts the next step on a task, so nothing waits on your memory.
- What should a founder's first sales pipeline look like?
- Keep it to five or six stages: new, first call, proposal sent, negotiating, won and lost. Give each stage a probability so the board shows a weighted forecast. You'll change the stages after your first ten deals, so pick a CRM where stages are cheap to edit.
- Can an AI agent do founder-led selling for me?
- An agent can draft, research and log, but you should approve what reaches a buyer. In SalesCrew every agent starts in review mode, so drafts wait in one approval queue until you send them. Your voice stays yours, and the busywork around it goes away.
- Why did you leave out Pipedrive?
- Pipedrive's pricing page blocked our reader when we checked it in September 2026, so we couldn't confirm its current plans. We rank only tools whose plans we read on the vendor's own site.
