What can the Instantly MCP server do?
It gives Claude or ChatGPT the controls of your cold email account: campaigns, leads, replies, sending limits and warmup.

The short answer
- The Instantly MCP server lets an AI assistant read campaign analytics, search leads, check replies in the unified inbox and see each account's warmup health, as of September 2026.
- The Instantly MCP server also writes: it creates, launches, pauses and archives campaigns, adds leads, sets send windows and daily limits, and manages the blocklist.
- Instantly's MCP server runs on your Instantly API key, which its guide says needs the Growth plan or above.
- SalesCrew mirrors your Instantly sender registry and works the replies as deals, with 140+ MCP tools and every external send in one approval queue.
Instantly's server runs the sending side
Instantly built its MCP server for people who run cold email at volume. You ask how a campaign is doing, and the assistant pulls the analytics. You ask it to pause a campaign that's bouncing, and it does. It can also add leads, update their status and change the custom variables your templates use.
The settings jobs are the powerful ones. From chat, you can change send windows, daily limits, inbox rotation and warmup settings. That's handy on a busy morning, and it's also the part to guard, because one wrong limit changes how every mailbox sends.
What Instantly's MCP server reads and writes
Grouped as Instantly's own guide describes them.
| Area | Read | Write |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns | Analytics and status | Create, launch, pause and archive |
| Leads | Search by email or company | Add to campaigns, update status, set custom variables |
| Inbox | Replies from the unified inbox | Inbox rotation |
| Email accounts | Health and warmup status | Warmup settings, send windows, daily limits |
| Lists and jobs | Background job progress | Blocklist entries |

Setting it up takes three steps
First, create an API key in Instantly under Settings, then Integrations, then API. Second, install the server locally. Instantly's guide uses Python 3.10 or later and a clone of its GitHub repository. Third, add the key to your AI client's config file as an environment variable and restart the client.
Once connected, test with read jobs first. Ask for last week's reply counts or one account's warmup status before you let the assistant touch a live campaign.
How SalesCrew fits beside Instantly
SalesCrew keeps the pipeline your cold email feeds. It mirrors your Instantly sender and domain registry, so the accounts you warmed there show up next to the deals, the inbox and the cadences. Your team can also send cadences through SalesCrew's own mailbox pool, with per-mailbox and per-domain daily caps.
On the SalesCrew MCP server, 140+ tools cover the rest of the job. inbox_threads reads replies, inbox_classify labels them, deal_create opens a deal from a positive answer, and suppression_add stops a contact everywhere. Every external send waits in one approval queue, and every tool call is written to the audit log.
Keep daily limits a human decision
Questions
- Which Instantly plan do I need for the MCP server?
- Instantly's guide says API access comes with the Growth plan and above, as checked in September 2026. The MCP server runs on your API key, so it needs a plan that includes the API.
- Where does the Instantly API key live?
- On your own machine. You create the key under Settings, Integrations, API in Instantly and store it in your AI client's config file. Instantly's guide says the key stays local, as of September 2026.
- Does the Instantly MCP server work with ChatGPT?
- Yes. Instantly's guide uses Claude Desktop as its main example and says ChatGPT works through Developer Mode, which added MCP support in September 2025. Any MCP-compatible assistant can connect the same way.
- Can I keep my Instantly accounts and use SalesCrew for the pipeline?
- Yes. SalesCrew mirrors your Instantly sender and domain registry, so the mailboxes you warmed there sit next to the deals they feed. Replies land in the SalesCrew inbox, and an assistant can work them through SalesCrew's 140+ MCP tools.
