How long does 10DLC registration take?

Brand approval is often fast. Campaign review is the slower step, commonly 10 to 15 days according to Twilio's own documentation, longer for some use cases.

The short answer

  • 10DLC registration happens in two steps. Brand registration verifies the business itself. Campaign registration verifies the specific type of messaging planned. Each has its own timeline.
  • Brand-level approval is often quick, sometimes within a day or two for standard verification tiers. It mainly confirms who the sending business is.
  • Campaign-level review is the step that takes longer. Twilio's own documentation describes current campaign review commonly taking around 10 to 15 days. This can vary by carrier and use case.
  • Because the campaign step is the bottleneck, start registration weeks before a planned SMS launch, not the same week a number is purchased. That is the difference between texting on schedule and missing a launch date.

Why the two steps take different amounts of time

Brand registration establishes who the sending business is. Legal name, tax ID or an equivalent identifier, and contact information. This step is largely a verification lookup and tends to resolve quickly. Carrier and platform documentation commonly describes it as a day or two for standard verification levels.

Campaign registration is a different kind of review. It asks the carrier network to assess what kind of messages the business plans to send, at what expected volume, and for what purpose. Marketing, appointment reminders, two-way support conversations, and so on. This review is manual in nature and takes longer. Twilio's own documentation on A2P 10DLC states that campaign reviews are currently taking on the order of 10 to 15 days. That is the figure to plan around, not the speed of buying the number itself.

What this means for planning a launch

If a business plans to start texting customers on a specific date, for appointment reminders, marketing, or general communication, registration needs to start weeks ahead. Not the same week the number is purchased. A safe buffer, based on the timelines carriers and platforms currently describe, is two to three weeks before the intended go-live date. Longer if the campaign type is one that tends to draw more scrutiny.

Disclosure: SalesCrew is our product, and SMS and phone features are on our roadmap and not shipped today. This page is not describing a SalesCrew registration flow. The timeline described here comes from the carrier and platform ecosystem broadly and applies whichever vendor eventually handles the texting.

Do not buy the number the week you plan to launch

Campaign review alone can take 10 to 15 days per Twilio's own documentation. Start registration well ahead of any planned SMS launch date. This is not legal advice.

Questions

Can 10DLC registration be expedited?
Vetted campaigns and certain higher-trust brand tiers can sometimes move faster and reach higher throughput limits. The review itself still follows the carrier network's own timeline. It is not a rush option a business can simply pay for.
Does the timeline differ by campaign type?
Yes. Different use cases, such as marketing versus appointment reminders versus two-way conversational messaging, are reviewed differently. Some categories draw more scrutiny than others, which can affect how long approval takes.
What should I do while waiting for approval?
Avoid sending meaningful SMS volume from the number in the meantime. Unregistered or pending traffic can be filtered. Plan any launch date around the registration timeline, not around when the number itself was purchased.
