Check your email copy for spam triggers
Paste a subject and body. Eight rules score trigger words, caps, links, images and the opt-out line, all inside your browser.
- Eight published rules
- Nothing leaves your browser
- No email required

The short answer
- An email spam checker scores the content of a message: trigger phrases, capital letters, exclamation marks, links, images and the opt-out line.
- This checker adds points per rule and bands the total: 0 to 2 is low risk, 3 to 6 medium, and 7 or more high.
- Content is one of three things filters weigh, beside domain authentication and sending reputation.
- The fastest fixes are usually a sentence-case subject, one link at most, and a plain opt-out line.
The eight rules and their points
Every point the checker adds comes from one of these rows. Nothing else is scored.
| Rule | When it fires | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Spam-trigger phrases | Any of 40 listed phrases, counted once each | 1 per phrase, up to 8 |
| ALL CAPS subject | At least 4 letters and 70% or more of them capitals | 3 |
| Shouting in the body | 3 or more words of 4+ capital letters | 2 |
| Exclamation marks | 3 or more across subject and body | 2 |
| Links | 3 or more links: 2 points. Fewer than 40 words per link: 2 more | 2 to 4 |
| Image-heavy | An <img> tag with fewer than 25 words of text | 3 |
| No opt-out line | No unsubscribe, opt-out, "reply stop" or "not interested" wording | 2 |
| Money symbols | 3 or more dollar signs | 1 |

Three emails, scored by hand
A plain cold email scores 0. Subject: "Quick question about Acme's outbound". The body runs about 70 words with no links and ends "If this isn't relevant, reply 'stop' and I won't follow up." No rule fires, so it lands in Low risk.
A promotional blast scores 16. Subject: "FREE TRIAL - ACT NOW". Body: "Get 100% free access. Click here: https://a.example https://b.example https://c.example!!!" Five trigger phrases add 5 (free, 100% free, 100%, act now, click here). The caps subject adds 3. Three links add 2, and 5 words of text across 3 links add 2 more. Three exclamation marks add 2, and the missing opt-out adds 2.
A discount offer scores 3. Subject: "Last chance: 20% discount for your team". The short body mentions a limited time offer, has one link and an unsubscribe line. Three phrases fire (last chance, discount, limited time), which puts it in Medium risk.
Write the opt-out once, then let the system honour it
Questions
- How do I check if my email will go to spam?
- Check the three things filters weigh: your domain's authentication, your sending reputation, and the copy itself. This tool scores the copy against eight published rules. For authentication, run the DMARC checker and SPF generator on this site.
- What words trigger spam filters?
- Phrases tied to hard selling and money: free, act now, click here, guaranteed, risk-free, limited time, cash and similar. One of them rarely sinks an email alone. Filters score them together with caps, links and exclamation marks.
- Does a low score mean my email reaches the inbox?
- A low score means your copy avoids the common content triggers. Inbox placement also depends on authentication, sending volume, complaint rate and the receiver's own filters, so treat the score as one input among those.
- Do cold emails need an unsubscribe link?
- CAN-SPAM requires a clear way to opt out in commercial email sent to US recipients. In cold email, a plain line such as "reply stop and I won't write again" is common. The checker accepts that wording as an opt-out.
